harmony with ourselves is how we develop harmony in the collective.
One of the things I’ve been considering lately as I’ve been preparing for my new course (Developing Creative Intuition) is the relationship between intuition and harmony. In particular, I’ve been struck by the alignment between intuitive awareness and its ability to infuse our entire life with creative intelligence.
When we listen to our intuition, our life transforms in synchronistic ways, restoring the natural order of experience. Rather than experiencing conflict between the different parts of our life, they fuse into a single, elegant system and coexist with ease.

We start with the attunement to a single pull — a whisper to soften, pivot, and adjust. Before long, the foundation of our life starts to shift and changes required to reclaim our integrity become clear. What we don’t always recognize are the subtle workings of the psyche transforming beneath the surface, preparing us for a brand new life — a life that is custom-made for us.
Although we may not know where the pull is taking us (we usually don’t), there is a feeling that we just have to move in the direction of this inner knowing.
The gap between past and future closes, and time rests in this moment — mirroring the potential of the eternal now. Intuition reinforces this state of being.
Broadly speaking, following our intuition brings us back into internal congruence, where our centers of self are in alignment (mind, heart, gut), and we see this slowly manifest in the choices we make and the outcome of those choices. Over time, it’s not uncommon to sense how beautifully the different parts of our life nurture one another. It’s almost as if it happens through the touch of magic.
We might begin to sense how the work we do strengthens the relationships we choose, and the connections we anchor into compels us to take inspired action elsewhere in life. Listening to a pull to reach out to an old friend might spark a moment of insight, and in turn our presence may mirror something vital back to them.
There seems to be this reciprocal effect where we nurture our vision by listening, and life responds through a kind of effortless unfolding. The only thing we can do is trust. The flow of luck continues to unfold the less we interfere with its process.
I have felt this rhythm acutely over the last few months, where I felt pulled to leave New York and spend some time in a city I once called home, London. My time in London has been short, but so incredibly sweet. Much of the vitality I lost touch with in New York was surprisingly renewed, and I found myself relieved that the outcome of this decision was affirming. Ironically, my time in London has also reflected how much I love and miss New York, and I’ve been presented with guidance that has continued to lead me back (a new role; a deepened relationship; and strong community ties).
This time, however, it feels different. I feel different.
I didn’t know why I had to leave New York and go to London. I didn’t know why things happened in such perfect sequencing that it felt as though the city itself was pushing me out. But now, I know. Through my own experience with developing creative intuition and following the initiative of my spirit, I am shocked at how beautifully everything has worked out.
I feel as though I am connected with states of being that I have only ever dreamt of experiencing. Though years of concentrated meditation provided me with valuable feedback and a level of curiosity that disrupted old habits, my embodied sense of intuitive wisdom led me back home (metaphorically and literally).
And now, as I transition back to New York, there is a harmony within myself that I can sense in how I work, relate, speak, and move. This was not necessarily where I thought I’d be at this time in my life, but it does feel good. Really good.
Creative intuition is an energetic force that mirrors our unique place in the larger tapestry of life. And when we listen to the pull of our spirit, we restore harmony within the self, which inevitably works to restore harmony in the greater macrocosm. Each of us, by nature of aligning with the truth within ourselves, has the ability to feed a higher ideal of the world. It sounds cliche, but it really does begin with our relationship to self.
Having a foundational sense of what our intuition is saying is key to remembering the intricacies of this universe. What happens in our own mind and body is reflected in what is happening in the larger culture, nation, planet, and cosmos. We are vulnerable to the conditions of our social and spiritual atmosphere, yet those conditions are also vulnerable to the shape and expression of our own intelligence.
I feel this interconnected relationship strongly at a time where explicit, violent acts of racism and discrimination are rising. Being in England during the Far-Right Unite the Kingdom march is alarming, for I haven’t witnessed this level of collective, overt hatred toward black and brown people in the UK, especially toward anyone who can be perceived as Muslim.
Of course it’s always been there, and we’ve all experienced encounters with this ideology, but this degree of symptomatic intensity toward immigrant communities in England is new for my generation. The English psyche is distinct from the American psyche. Similar, yes — but distinct. The English psyche had turned the collective into a uniformly repressed state of being, expressed through a mute persona and a suffocating landscape. We’re only now seeing this unravel at a deeper relational level.
Yes, I’m angry. Yes, I want to shut down and blame, attack, defend. The instinct to protect myself and my community is loud. AND, my intuition keeps reminding me: these people are lonely, these people are lost, these people have forgotten their connection to the divine. Fear and violence perpetuated by divisive systems and discriminatory practices toward the ‘other’ can only occur when one has lost touch with the sacred.
It’s impossible to anchor into the intelligence of the sacred and the wild Spirit of the Great Mother while enacting ceaseless violence onto others.
This is not a justification of harmful behavior fueled by white supremacist ideology. It’s a reminder that these behaviors have nothing to do with the target of the ideology, while continuing to deeply affect our communities. This is a reflection of the fundamental disconnection from the sacred; and when we forget who we really are, truly at our core, we are capable of terrible things.
Learning the language of the self requires ongoing discernment as to what we have inherited from cultural norms and ancestral worldviews — and how they may align or interfere with our own vibrancy and sense of meaning. The challenge with discernment is that we typically emphasize its intellectual faculty over its felt sense of differentiation.
It is only through re-inhabting the body, purifying and moving through embodied memory, and cultivating emotional inquiry that we can really know what is happening for us.
Knowledge of the self is knowledge of the cosmos, and knowledge of the cosmos is knowledge of the self. Correct perception of this connection is a breakthrough experience; and the disruption of learned ignorance is cathartic and reparative.
Everyday we have the choice to nurture the vision of humanity that we might desperately long for in our hearts, and it starts with our ability to be in right relationship with ourselves. The world will provide us with enough reasons for self-loathing, and it’s a radical act to drop those convictions and trust the wisdom of your spirit.
The psychic harmony we experience by virtue of honoring our inner truth allows us to see the social sphere with greater clarity, prompting us to take right action in the direction of healing. When we are internally fragmented, we lose touch with this sight.
Internal congruence reflects a way of being in the world that cherishes the beauty of our essence and grants us the responsibility to evoke this truth in others.
My hope is that at this point in time, we can remember the power of the infinitesimal. Creating a new field of possibility one small, precious step at a time.
Each Friday, I’m offering community classes at 11am ET on Zoom. These classes are intended to offer a space for contemplation and connection, especially at a time where everyday might feel like a crisis.
All classes are donation based. More information can be found here.
