The short answer is yes.

I was at the Tate Modern this week, and I saw this archival footage from trans sex worker Mary Jones. It was the last thing I saw on my way out, and I knew exactly why I felt drawn to go specifically here out of all the museums in London.
It’s provocative to name the ease in which certain psychological states can be accessed — and yet, it’s true. It is easy to remember your power. It is easy to develop your intuition. It is easy to soften into yourself. That is not where the challenge lies.

The challenge that most of us associate with the cultivation of these psychological states is the conditioning and history we carry around investing our energy wisely and trusting the simplicity of life. Most of us have learned that restoring our power would lead to rejection, abandonment, and isolation. We have learned that developing our intuition means pain and the fear of losing the safety of external validation.
In these moments, we are responding to the consequences of protecting and trusting our innate knowledge, not the trusting of that knowledge in and of itself. We respond to what happens next.
It’s not that remembering our power or strengthening our intuitive wisdom is inherently difficult or complicated. It’s usually the unlearning required to restore our natural state of presence where we confront our tenderness. Remembering our power is easy, but moving through the deeper stories around powerlessness and safety is where the intensity begins. To restore personal power is to acknowledge the forms of self-betrayal we have invested in, and to cultivate our intuition is to see where we have been too afraid to develop self-trust and be responsible for ourselves.
What makes it especially tender is the pain inflicted on many from the minds and hands of others.
I’ve been working through some of these themes myself over the past few years, and I was not prepared for the social disorientation that accompanies the internalisation of your own authority.
What happens when you no longer shrink in the face of a culture that bonds through fear and limitation? What happens when you access your agency in a situation that has only known you as helpless? What happens when intuitive guidance requires you to surrender your will to know? Or when your intuition compels you to act in a manner that is considered absurd to the world at large, especially to those you hold dear?
When you naturally allow yourself to live from your heart, it might feel confusing to those who choose to live from the mind. Neither are wrong, but they are very different.
These are the complex states of narrative and feeling that need to be uncovered, purified, and healed. And it begins at the beginning. To move forward, we often have to go back. La Force (#11 in the tarot) personifies the pilgrimage into the unconscious, in turn allowing for creative initiation into new territory in the world. By meeting previously unknown parts of the self, she is gifted with insight that takes her to places where no-one else has been before. That is authenticity in motion.
When she is no longer negotiating her own authority or in conflict against parts of herself, she is reminded of the magnificence of softening into her enlightened potential. With this intimate self-connection, we access our full inspired capacity.
Intuition and personal power are intrinsically linked. When you strengthen the intuitive muscle, you invest in your personal authority and life responds with courage and choice, which compels you to trust the intuition more. We might consider it a psychological ecosystem between self-trust, self-confidence, and congruence. The natural expression of radiance.
La Force knows that her presence is the formula for miracles. When she meets the moment from a place of internal congruence, the moment responds with valuable information. There is no decision to be made because the wisdom of her being is effortlessly expressed in what she does next. The struggle of complication is surrendered in exchange for the intelligence of simplicity, and the preciousness of her life is revealed through the clarity of her choices.
Over the next few weeks, as we enter eclipse season and taste Venus in Leo, I invite you to consider the nature of complexity and the ways we inhibit ease out of fear of simplicity.
What do we do when there is nothing to do? What is revealed when we drop the struggle and listen to the moment?
How does the mind respond when we relax into the vastness of the body? What might we encounter through the choice to relax fully, right now, exactly as we are?
The individuation journey contains periods of real difficulty and grief, but I invite you to explore what gets stirred when you contemplate the ease of personal power. Observe where your mind goes, and notice how it influences what becomes possible in the next moment. You might sense what starts to open, or what starts to contract in protection. Nothing is wrong, it is simply feedback.
If you’d like to deepen the conversation on intuition and internal congruence, I’m offering a four-week class on developing creative intuition. The information can be found here. We’re moving the class to Wednesday evenings (6:30-8:30pm ET, starting September 24th) as it seems to be easier, so please note the date change.
